Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems work to improve air quality inside commercial buildings by drawing fresh air in from outside. This air is then filtered to remove any allergens and toxins and then circulated through the building. Their effectiveness and longevity heavily depend on proper maintenance. By having your system serviced regularly, any issues will be identified and repaired before they cause any serious issues and parts can also be prevented from breaking. Keeping on top of servicing will save you money further down the line and will keep your HVAC system operating on top form.
In general, the decision on how often to have your commercial air conditioning units serviced is up to you. For smaller spaces, servicing your HVAC system about once a year is average. However, larger commercial units can demand more from their systems and would benefit from more regular servicing. If you feel as though your units are not performing as well as they usually do, it is worth having them checked over. Most HVAC systems will run off of electricity or a combination of electricity and gas. If the air does not seem to regulate temperature as well, as usual, it could be a sign of a fault with gas, for gas-powered systems. Any unfamiliar noises when the AC system is operating would also require attention as this could be a sign of a damaged or loose part. Dust and debris can also build up in the system and cause blockages that will strain your system. By regularly maintaining your HVAC system, you are ensuring that these smaller, manageable issues do not become expensive and more serious.
For systems under significant strain or serving larger buildings, having them serviced two to four times a year; just before winter and before summer is best. This is best for systems that are used year-round for both heating and cooling. Your system will be checked for efficiency before the colder months and will also have a thorough clean before allergy season. Frequent servicing is also a better idea if the units are in dustier environments, where filter blockages are more likely to occur. It is also essential that you do not try and carry out maintenance or repairs on your system yourself. Any mishaps can lead to more expense in the long run and can cause damage to the system.
