Schemes to Help Save Money on Commercial Air Conditioning

If you’d like to swap your tired old commercial air conditioning unit for a more climate-friendly, energy-efficient system, you may want to take advantage of one of these money-saving schemes.

Government’s Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme

Who is it available to?

  • Businesses investing in energy-saving commercial air conditioning units included on the Energy Technology List.

What is it?

The Enhanced Capital Allowance Scheme is a government scheme that encourages business to invest in energy-saving systems.

The scheme allows businesses that purchase equipment from the Energy Technology List to write off the entire cost of the equipment against their taxable profits in the first year of its purchase.

Air conditioning units are just one such piece of equipment included in the Energy Technology List.  All items on the ETL meet the specifications set out on the Energy Technology Criteria List.

You can read more about the scheme on the government website here.

Carbon Trust Green Business Fund

Who is it available to?

  • Small and medium-sized businesses in England, Scotland and Wales.
  • Those purchasing equipment that costs a minimum of £5,000.

What is it?

The Carbon Trust’s Green Business Fund offers up to 15% (up to a max of £5,000) of the project cost back to businesses spending a minimum of £5,000 on energy-saving equipment from the Green Business Directory or from a BESA supplier.  The scheme is being run on a limited first come first served basis and applicants must apply for and be offered a capital contribution before the equipment is installed to qualify.
