Don’t Wait Till It’s Sweltering to Upgrade Your Air Con

Summer temperatures across the UK are rising each year which is why it is important to adequately prepare your air conditioning system. It is unlikely with the British weather that you’ve felt the need to use your air conditioning system to drastically reduce the temperature of your premises throughout the rest of the year. Therefore, when you go to use it during the hotter months, you may find that it is either broken or isn’t operating at maximum efficiency- costing you in both energy and money.

Despite having a lifespan of up to 20 years, HVAC systems still require regular maintenance and should be serviced by a HVAC specialist annually. This will help to avoid any costly repairs, damage and most importantly, extremely hot weather with no air conditioning!

Whilst there are checks that you can carry out yourself, without the proper knowledge and experience a HVAC contractor will have, you are likely to overlook issues. A professionally trained HVAC contractor will have knowledge of the majority of systems and models and so will be able to quickly spot if there is an issue. It may simply be a case of parts in your system needing an upgrade and, in this instance, your HVAC contractor will know the best part at the best price for your system.

If, however you suspect there may be an electrical issue with your air con system, trying to solve it yourself is definitely not advisable. Not only does it pose a risk to your own safety but the safety of all those on your premises- making you liable if there is an electrical fire or an electrocution. If you suspect there is an issue, it is best to turn off your system until a HVAC contractor can take a look at any repairs or replacements that must be made.

Regular maintenance and cleaning of air conditioning system is always advisable and often it can be dust and debris which aren’t allowing your system to work efficiently. That being said, some cleaning can only be carried out using the unique tools and experience of a contractor who can provide a full tune up. Some of the key jobs they will carry out are cleaning and replacing old air filters, replacing faulty or broken electrical parts, flushing the evaporator drain and cleaning the condenser coils.

A good HVAC contractor will always focus on identifying any potential problems in your system as well as ensuring the system is operating at maximum efficiency to save you time, energy and money. Preventative maintenance is key to not only keeping your system working and your premises cool but to also keep your manufacturer’s warranty valid.

So, before it gets too hot in the UK this Summer you may want to look into upgrading your air conditioning or simply hiring a HVAC contractor to thoroughly assess and fix your system.
